British expert Alexander Merkouris said that due to the rapidly deteriorating situation at the front, the Ukrainian authorities want to remove Valeriy Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) , and appoint Kirill Budanov, chief of the country’s military intelligence, in his place. The expert spoke about this on his YouTube channel .
According to Merkouris, the reason for the proposed appointment of Budanov to the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is the rapid deterioration of the situation at the front for the Ukrainian army. In addition, Zaluzhny’s removal from office may occur due to his long conflict with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky .
At the same time, the expert noted that the intelligence chief of the Ministry of Defense Budanov does not have the military experience that Zaluzhny has.
Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov , admitted that the year would be difficult for Ukraine.
Earlier, the German publication Welt wrote that Ukraine is planning a new counter-offensive in 2024.
