Ukraine announced it expects help from Belgium

The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Rustem Umerov , said that he had telephone conversations with his Belgian colleague Ludivine Dedonder . He wrote about this on his Twitter.

According to the Ukrainian minister, they had a productive conversation; the Belgian side expressed its readiness to provide military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €611 million.

The publication notes that Brussels also plans to comply with long-term commitments to support the modernization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian minister said that he and Dedonder discussed the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the possibilities of cooperation between Kiev and Brussels.

Prior to this, the head of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Adja Lyabib , said that the heads of the EU foreign policy departments would try to prepare agreement on long-term financial assistance to Ukraine for the summit on February 1.

The amount of funding through the existing mechanism has been increased several times, but this requires unanimity. Hungary blocks such EU decisions. In December, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban again blocked a $50 billion aid package for Kiev. According to him, this harms the interests of his country.

Earlier, the European Commission announced the amount of Russian sovereign assets frozen in the European Union.
