The Wildberries marketplace will launch a service for online product authentication in August. It will protect buyers from counterfeit goods.
“The online platform is completing the development of the Digital Arbitration service, which will protect copyright holders from unfair actions of other sellers, and buyers from possible counterfeit products,” writes TASS with reference to representatives of the marketplace.
If copyright holders suspect that their intellectual property rights have been violated, they will be able to independently verify the documents. In this case, the duration of the proceedings will be reduced to a few days. If the authenticity of the product is not confirmed, then Wildberries will hide it from the online storefront. In case of repeated and massive violations, the company’s cooperation with this seller may be suspended. The copyright holder will be able to seek compensation through the court for violation of rights.
On July 7, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued a warning that Wildberries was becoming a counterfeit distribution channel. The agency referred to consumer complaints. By decision of the government, from March 1, 2023, marketplaces will have to label goods, which means a ban on the sale of counterfeit goods. Violations of the online platform will be held accountable.
