“They disagree on things like any married couple. She hates Trump, he understands Trump,” a friend once said of Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall. After seven years together, the differences are obviously large. The couple is about to divorce.
After six years of marriage, everything is said to be over: media mogul Rupert Murdoch is said to be divorcing his wife Jerry Hall. The “New York Times” reports, citing two insiders who are said to be familiar with the matter. An official confirmation is still pending.
Murdoch and Hall went public with their relationship in October 2015 and married in London in March 2016. The 91-year-old was previously married three times: from 1956 to 1967 he entered into his first marriage to Patricia Booker. Murdoch’s second wife was writer Anna Murdoch Mann. From the two marriages he has a total of four children who are between 64 and 49 years old. From 1999 to 2013, the multi-billionaire – his fortune is estimated at around $ 20 billion – was finally married to entrepreneur Wendi Deng. The couple have two other children, Grace, 21, and Chloe, two years younger. The dissolution of Hall’s marriage would be his fourth divorce.
Jerry Hall was not officially married to Rupert Murdoch before marriage. However, the former model and actress has been in a long-term relationship with The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. The two were in a relationship for 22 years. Hall and Jagger tied the knot in a Hindu ceremony in Bali in 1990, but it was not legally binding. The 65-year-old has four children with the musician: Gabriel (24), Georgia (30), James (36) and Elizabeth (38). When Jagger’s lover and child became public in the late ’90s, Hall broke up with him.
According to The Guardian, a friend of Murdoch and Hall said shortly before their wedding: “They’re very cute together, in a little bubble of couples. They’re already acting like a married couple, talking at once, holding hands. (…) They disagree on things like any married couple. She hates Trump, he understands Trump, it was like that from the start.” As chairman of News Corp and Fox Corporation, Murdoch represents right-wing conservative values. He describes himself as a climate change skeptic and has spread Republican claims in his media that US President Joe Biden “stole” the 2020 presidential election.
On his wedding anniversary to Hall, Murdoch tweeted, “No more tweets for ten days or ever! Feeling like the luckiest AND cheerful man alive.” Since then, he has not tweeted any original messages, only replying to other tweets three times. Who knows, maybe a new Twitter post will soon confirm their split for good?
